30 things to do before I’m 30

CakeMy 29th birthday is only a month away, and I’ve been pondering how I want to spend my last year as a twenty-something, specifically, what I want to have achieved by the time I reach 30. So here, in no particular order, is a list of 30 things I’d like to do by 28 May 2008.

  1. Achieve a monthly grocery budget of £50 (currently £80)
  2. Make myself another skirt
  3. Take a photography course
  4. Have an article published in a national newspaper
  5. Learn ten new tricks in Photoshop (3 completed)
  6. Climb Snowdon
  7. Have a campervan holiday
  8. Sort out proper stash storage
  9. Grow 20 different crops (in progress)
  10. Have a BMI of less than 24
  11. Learn to knit
  12. Finish my New Zealand scrapbook album
  13. Finish my Switzerland scrapbook album
  14. Clear out the drawer under the spare bed(!)
  15. Go whale-watching
  16. Try three new foods
  17. Write a sample chapter and book proposal
  18. Re-read the New Testament from start to finish
  19. Have a skiing lesson
  20. Play my flute at church
  21. Learn to make baked alaska
  22. Write a song
  23. Walk the South Downs Way
  24. Get back in touch with my old friend Danielle
  25. Invent a culinary masterpiece
  26. Take part in an inchies swap
  27. Go badger-watching
  28. Conquer the art of making flapjack
  29. Complete a family tree with at least 50 people on it
  30. Introduce 10 people to mince pie toasties

And if I complete all those, I’ll be throwing a party.

PS Any family or friends seeking birthday present inspiration might find it here, but in the spirit of creative simplicity, really, I’ll be happy with a packet of seeds or something friendly and home-made, like a cake (see above). Or you might choose to spend your money on something useful, like a chicken from the alternative gift catalogue. Cluck.

  1. That is a great list!

  2. Wow- I thought, ‘that’s a lot to do before May 28th’, then I realised that it was 28th May 2008! Doh! Good list. Very practical! Of course, I have questions – what sort of song, what will your book be about, have you started your family tree yet?

Please don’t make me eat mince pie toasties!

  3. Don’t you like mince pies? I love them. Anyway. Mince pie toasties are made using filo pastry and mincemeat in a sandwich toaster, should anyone wish to experiment. They are delicious with ice cream.

To answer your questions, no idea, no idea and no, not yet. I’ve only just written the list!

  4. no 27. You can come and badger-watch from our kitchen window if you like! Might be able to help with no.16 while you visit!

  7. Mince pie toasties? I might have to look that one up.

  8. How are you getting on with completing your list?
