Eating and sleeping

Time for a bit of a weekend catch-up. I didn’t just sit around waiting for Joseph, y’know.

Ultimate SizzlerOn Saturday lunchtime we mystery shopped a Hungry Horse pub. Probably better not say where – it is supposed to be a mystery, after all - suffice to say it was not our nearest one, and it was Good. We adore Hungry Horse – both the food and the prices.

I had a new addition to the menu – the Thai Green Chicken Curry Pie; and Dave had the Ultimate Sizzler (as required by the assignment): steak, chicken, ribs, prawns, chips, etc, etc. Ultimate CandymaniaWe then followed this with the largest dessert I know of – even rivalling Bella Pasta’s Godfather for Two, which is also pretty impressive. It’s called the Ultimate Candymania and comprises chocolate brownies, chocolate ice cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, maltesers, milky way magic stars, cream, chocolate finger-type things and chocolate ‘space dust’. Oh my word, it was big. But we finished it. Oh yes. Champion eaters, the Gileses.

Other than church on Sunday (where I was on OHP duty and managed not to have the sheet with the words to the final verse of one of the songs at my disposal – whoops), most of the rest of the weekend was taken up with turning two single duvet covers into sleeping sheets for taking youth hostelling. Much unpicking of hems, removing of press-studs and velcro, and re-hemming. I’m not great at sewing – still finding my way round the machine – and they’re not works of art, but they should at least see us through a couple of weeks of Norwegian travels. And besides, it’s cheaper (and roomier) than hiring them at 45kr (about £3.75) each per night!

Doctor WhoWe loved Doctor Who this week – the whole John Smith/Doctor thing was great. (Cue gratuitous picture of David Tennant.) We really only watch about four TV prgrammes a week: Doctor Who, Doctor Who Confidential, Any Dream Will Do, and HIGNFY. Oh, and Paul Merton in China. Five, then. Anyway. Can’t wait for Captain Jack’s appearance in Doctor Who in a couple of weeks. Very exciting.

For the next few days I’ll be writing about World Vision’s work in Bangladesh. Before I go, here is today’s HSMS picture: a lid. Lid
